I recently came across Patrick Irla’s delicate, botanically inspired jewelry and was absolutely smitten. I love his take on familiar leaves and flowers, they’re at once organic and graphic. His work looks like miniature versions of slightly scuffed specimens – not the leaves in their prime but the ones that have fallen to the ground, maybe been tossed aside by a squirrel looking for a nut. His maple seed earrings make me want to play helicopters and tiny details like a ladybug on his ginko leaves just make me smile.
Patrick designs and produces all his pieces in his Birmingham, Michigan studio, focusing on lost wax casting as his main medium. While he uses a range of metals for his designs he tries to work as green as possible and all his silver is nickel free.
